The issue with this is that they are profiting off of a movement they are not a part of. Also, they are exerting their influence to control the narrative to one of “equality” instead of empowerment.
Using this instance as an example, the outcry should not be about the need for diversity in major corporations, it should be about the fact that companies market and sell to us but do not cut us in on the “action”. Giving someone a job with a high title is not the same as being a part of the action.
Everyone by now is familiar with the statistic that the buying power of black people is expected to reach between $1.2 trillion and $1.4 trillion by 2020. Currently, we cannot count this a true “worth”, because this money is not spent within the black community. It’s been reported that black people spend 93% of their income outside of the black community. Imagine if that headline read “The Expected Economic Worth of The Black Community will be $1.4 Trillion by 2020”.
