Companies have discovered that the ultimate “life hack” to marketing is to capitalize off of the inability of people to enjoy life in general. If people believe that their happiness is waiting somewhere down the line when they take that vacation, or buy that pair shoes, or buy that new phone, then they’ll have you forever. Because “joy” is one of the most intense primal urges that people experience. The drive to be joyful goes all the way back to primitive “Man”. That reward mechanism is in place to incentivize your survival. In nature things that are “tasty” are usually good for you as well (there are exceptions). So, the dopamine release is encouragement to keep doing things that will you and the species alive (sex).
The term, “Black power” is an empty statement unless it is fortified with the essential ingredients needed to generate and sustain power. Your ability to achieve success in life is based, in part, on seizing opportunities when they arise or on creating new opportunities. However, your personal success (and ultimately our collective success at acquiring power) is severely compromised when your health and vitality are not optimized
The issue with this is that they are profiting off of a movement they are not a part of. Also, they are exerting their influence to control the narrative to one of “equality” instead of empowerment.
Using this instance as an example, the outcry should not be about the need for diversity in major corporations, it should be about the fact that companies market and sell to us but do not cut us in on the “action”. Giving someone a job with a high title is not the same as being a part of the action.
Everyone by now is familiar with the statistic that the buying power of black people is expected to reach between $1.2 trillion and $1.4 trillion by 2020. Currently, we cannot count this a true “worth”, because this money is not spent within the black community. It’s been reported that black people spend 93% of their income outside of the black community. Imagine if that headline read “The Expected Economic Worth of The Black Community will be $1.4 Trillion by 2020”.
Malcolm X told us to do for self... His teacher told him to do for self... That's what Malcolm X meant to me ... I am living out his vision.
The Resolution attempts to remove the negative stigma from those who escaped with the language “WHEREAS, intentional or not, the current name of such creek serves to cast, edify, and perpetuate a posture of criminality upon the men and women who pursued the inalienable right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness...”
The monkey went for the meat and trapped his self.
Trump may have found his self in a similar situation by gloating over the state of the current economy. An interesting stat to take note of is that the national deficit has not seen any significant reduction even in the midst of a 10 year “growth” period. This so called “growth” period took place during extremely low interest rates.
MLK’s stomping grounds was the Auburn-Boulevard-Edgewood area of Atlanta. This was a thriving black middle-class area in the 60s. If you go there now, for the most part you see mass poverty amongst the black people in that area. And for the portions that are not impoverished, they are being aggressively gentrified. This could not have been the vision for Black America that MLK saw
The reason this race is one to watch is because we are seeing this trend play out all over America.
If Mary Norwood wins this election, it would be the first white mayor of Atlanta since Sam Massell which was almost 50 years ago.
